Retro Repin on my Birthday Edition

Hi Everyone! So sorry for the late party post. If you follow me on Instagram or my personal Facebook you would  already know. But just incase you don't, I will tell you. As soon as I got home from my 8:oo - 5:00 job my husband looked at me and said grab the baby extra clothes, diapers, make sure he has a clean diaper on and get in the car. He had a surprise for me on my birthday. I have told everyone he kidnapped me. I had no clue where we were going. Until we got on the interstate and then I only new what city we were going to. My wonderful husband drove south for 1 hr on a school and work night, just so I could go shopping and go out to eat with my parents for my birthday. I am so blessed to have a thoughtful husband. On that note, I am sorry to announce that I did not do a feature this week. Seeing that is 11:30pm and I have to be up in 5hrs. I love everyones posts and I have a hard time picking a favorite every week. I promise I will pick 3 for next week.
Now on to the party!

Reminiscing about Independence Day

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July last weekend. My family and I spent some much needed family time with Grandpa and Grandma. Its hard living several hours away from your parents. We were blessed to get to spend one whole week with them. I cherished every minute there. While we were there we hosted a cookout. It was so nice getting to see family I don't get to see very often.   I think the cookout went very well. We served hot dogs and chili, grilled hamburgers, baked beans, potato salad, cabbage casserole and as a surprise to me my Grandma made homemade from scratch chicken and dumplings. We also had various scrumptious desserts to choose from.  I loved our simple decorations and food layout.

Here you can see we used a simple red, white and blue deco mesh that was wrapped around glasses to place the plastic ware and straws in. I loved the curvy straws. I picked up the last 2 packs of those at the Dollar Tree.

Even the plates was themed red, white and blue. Grabbed these at the Dollar Tree also.

We bought two of these hats and placed them together. Another Dollar Tree find.

We used the extra deco mesh to make bows around the deck to help make things festive.

I found this table topper at the Dollar Tree. I thought it was cute. It added to the spirit of the day.

Here is my daughter being all festive wearing her 4th of July headband, that I also got at the Dollar Tree. I am starting to think I buy lots of stuff at the Dollar Tree.

This was the one of the fruit trays I made for the party. I used one whole watermelon, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. This was a big hit with the adults and the kids.

I tried to make a flag that I saw on Pinterest with the cupcakes. It was harder than what I thought. The strawberries had to be cut into thin slivers to be placed on top. I am wondering if I would have used a stiffer icing if the strawberries and blueberries would have stayed in place more. This dish was another big hit with the kids.

Due to the temperture outside and the way the sun was shining at the time of eating, we decided to serve the food inside and then let guest go outside to eat. This way it cut down on flies and everything getting to hot. The above picture was what the dessert table looked like.

After we finished our meal, we talked for awhile then we broke out the volley ball and played until it was time to see fireworks. What did you and your family do to celebrate Independence Day?

Fall Baby Shower

I just love fall themes, so when one of my best friends offered to host a baby shower for me, I knew I wanted a fall theme. She was excited to provide a chili bar setting to go along with everything. My friend worked so hard making my big day so special.

Together we chose a park pavilion to host the party at.We prayed for good weather but unfortunly it rained. We had to get creative to cover the food, so we used a brown tarp. I actually fell in love with it when it was up. I thought it drew attention to the chili bar. It was very windy an hour before the party and items kept blowing off, thank goodness the wind stopped before the party. The table was organized for depth and demisions and we found that it was hard to organize with five crock pots, but everything came together in the end.

The food that was served was:
White Chili
Fall Veggie Chili
Beef Chili
Red Chicken Chili
Plain Noodles
Corn Bread
Salad and dressing
Baked Potatoes

On the dessert table was the cake and the party favors which was caramel apples.
I love how the caramel apples are rolling out of the bucket and the string that is on them.

I will have to give Jaclyn McFarland congrats on making the cake that I feel in love with. She is so amazing with cakes. If you live in the Louisville area and looking for someone to do cakes send me a message and I will send you her contact information. She does great work.
As for the drinks that were served. There were mason jars filled with Trader Joe's Apple Cider and a Cranberry Mocktail.

As for the games, we played the typical diaper the baby and place the pacifer in the babies mouth blind folded. Since there were children there, we had guest play a sac race game. It was cute to watch the guest play the game.
I am so blessed to have such great friends and family. Thank you all who came to celebrate Baby Nelson's arrival.
