Crock Pot Ham and Scalloped Potatoes

Crock Pot Ham and Scalloped Potatoes

Hey hey everyone!! Millie from 2 Crochet Hooks here and I am so excited to be guest cooking over here with Felicia @ Nifty Thrifty Family! Best thing about guest cooking, you mess up someone else's kitchen! :) Thanks Felicia for inviting us over!
crock pot Ham and scalloped potatoes
Today we are making Ham and Scalloped Potatoes for the crock pot. This is a super simple recipe and you can vary the servings by increasing the amount of the ingredients. Today I am making enough for 3-4 - dinner for hubby and myself and lunch the next day. Double the ingredients to feed 6-8 people (depending on hungry level!).
Ingredients
You will need (I used the smaller amount):
4-8 potatoes, sliced
(we don't eat onions but add some if you like them)
2-4 cups of ham, sliced or chunks (we used fresh ham here but have used every type of ham imaginable and it works!)
1-2 cans of cream soup of your choice of flavors (we used Chicken with Herbs)
1 1/2 - 3 cups of cheddar cheese
Pepper to taste
Parsley, to taste
Layer potatoes
Add 1/3rd of your sliced potatoes to the bottom of the crock pot and a few twists of the pepper grinder (add onions if using next). Top with 1/3 of the cheese, then 1/3 ham. Continue with layers, ending with ham.
add soup
Whisk the cream soup with a half can of milk or water (smaller recipe) or 1 can of liquid (larger recipe) and a couple shakes of parsley or spices of your choice, and pour over the top. Wiggle a spoon around to make sure liquid manages to get through all the layers. I typically check about half way through to see if it needs more liquid.
Slow cooker ham and scalloped potatoesCook 6-8 hours on low for smaller recipe, 8-10 for larger or until potatoes are to desired doneness. Serve and enjoy!
Do you have a great ham recipe for the slow cooker? We love ham over here and are always looking for new recipes! Thanks again to Felicia for inviting us over to cook for you all today! Have a great week!
Millie Cardwell of 2 Crochet Hooks

Thank you so much Millie for sharing this awesome recipe. Don't forget to swing by 2 Crochet Hooks blog and check out their other great posts.

Learn more about Millie and Kristina in their bio on how they got their start.

Bio- A fewyears ago when Kristina was living in Texas, she came home to visit. With her she brought the granddaughter, a skein of yarn and some crochet hooks. By the time she left I was totally in love with the granddaughter and hooked on crochet. I decided to make a blanket for the hubby but I had a hard time keeping my rows straight so started looking at afghan patterns. I discovered two things – I didn’t understand the patterns and granny squares are totally cool! Now, I am trying to teach myself how to sew and do other crafts while learning the blogging world.

I must say I am blessed to meet Millie and Kristina. I have teamed up with them on two weekly link parties - Retro Repin on Tursday nights and the Snickerdoodle Sunday on Saturday nights.  Thru these two blog hopes Millie and Kristina have taught me so much. Thank you Millie and Kristina for being my guest this week.

Snickerdoodle Sunday #53

Hope everyone has a Happy Halloween. I know this weekend has been filled with tons of Halloween actives. We have a big tin Halloween bucket and usually it gets full on Halloween night, well we have a week to go and that bucket is already full of candy. I have even took candy to work. We are going to have candy coming out our ears. Do you do something special with the candy you receive? Like do you donate some or give it to a needed family for a special treat. I would love to hear what your family does with all that sugar you receive in the Halloween season.
Now on to the party.  I hope you all had a good week and it was not very stressful. Let's all take a break,  sit back, relax and enjoy the party.

As always cookies and snacks are provided by your fab hostesses!

          Slow Cooker Three Bean Soup

Today I have a wonderful guest blogger who will be sharing with you all a very yummy slow cooker (crock-pot) recipe. Please make her feel very welcome with warm comments.
          So lets welcome
          Adrian Peterson
Who blogs over at Life With Garnish. She is a wife and mother to five (includes two sets of twins). She home schools her oldest son because of the extreme difficulty he was having in school. When they decided to pull him from school two years ago he barely knew his alphabet. Now he can read, spell, complete basic math problems, and tell time. She quit work as a Finance Manager in a non-profit organization to be able to focus on him. Going from a two income to a one income family has been a big adjustment and a lot of sacrifice for all of them. But they stuck with it because they love their Tyler. She started her blog a little of six months ago to give herself an outlet (some me time, if you will). She mostly shares with her audience inexpensive meals that are almost completely homemade. She also shares some homemade cleaning products that she likes to use. Last, but not least, she hosts a link party every Tuesday with her blogging buddy, Bobbi, from 3GLOL.

So now on to the recipe:
          Title: 3 Bean Soup

          Ingredients:
1 cup dry navy or Great Northern Beans 1⁄2 cup dry black beans
          1⁄2 cup dry lima beans
          6 cups water

          1⁄2 onion, chopped
2 carrots, chopped 1⁄2 cup dry split peas 2 tsps salt
          1⁄4 tsp pepper
          6 cups water

Place beans and 6 cups water in a large bowl or pan. Cover and let soak in the refrigerator overnight.
          Drain and rinse beans.
In a 4 to 6 quart slow cooker combine onions, carrots, dry split peas, salt and pepper.

Stir in drained beans and the remaining 6 cups of fresh water. Cover and cook on low heat for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours.

          Before cooking:

The yummy delicious soup when done cooking.

Looks yummy? I bet your mouth is watering right now. Check back next week for another great recipe within the Crock-Pot Series.
Thank you Adrian for sharing this mouth watering soup recipe with us.

                  Snickerdoodle Sunday #51

Happy Weekend Everyone!! What a great start to an awesome weekend I am having. Tomorrow we are celebrating my sons first birthday. I have had a blast preparing for his big day.  Hopefully I will be able to share pictures sometime this week. I think I have picked a great theme. We decided to have the party at our home thinking it was going to save us some money. Well... it has not saved us that much money. Decorations and food has been up there in price. Right now I am praying that there is no rain or thunderstorms. I have had to change my plans around just a bit. I was planning on having everything outside in the backyard that I love. Since the forecast is calling for 50% chance of thunderstorms I am going to have to place a small canopy tent up on the deck and have all the food set up in the kitchen. Hopefully everything will go smooth and there will be no rain. Come on hopefully Mother Nature will have a heart. You only have one first birthday.
Now on to the party.  I hope you all had a good week and it was not very stressful. Let's all take a break,  sit back, relax and enjoy the party.

                          Our favorite Crock-Pot Meals

October is here and that means it is crockpot season. What do you cook in your crockpot or slow cooker? Which name is actually right slow cooker or Crock-Pot I hear it called both all the time. Wikipedia says slow cooker is the correct name. The word Crock-Pot is used in only some countries. Crock -Pot is actually a brand. I just love cooking in my slow cooker, in the fall and winter my slow cooker makes a home on my kitchen counter.
